BSN Level 2 Seminar-Workshop on Traditional Medicine and Basic First Aid

Last August 7 & 8, 2019 the BSN level 2 Students attended and actively participated in the Seminar-Workshop on Traditional and Alternative Medicine and Basic First Aid held in Nursing Arts Room 4. The two-day activity aimed to provide the students with the basic knowledge on alternative medicines as advocated by the Department of Health in the treatment of common ailments and the basic first aid on the other hand aimed to equip them with the common first aid measures in managing emergency cases in preparation to their community health nursing exposures. ...

The focus of the seminar-workshop on Traditional Medicine was the introduction of the Ten (10) Herbal Medicines and their uses which was highlighted by the demonstration and return demonstration of Lagundi syrup and Akapulko ointment making. After the students labored and made their own lagundi syrup and akapulko ointment, the finished products were then displayed for critiquing by the Clinical Instructors. Lagundi syrup was tasted by the students themselves. It was their first time have a taste of this cough remedy.

On the second day, the Basic First Aid input was given by Prof. Girlie “J” G. Hermoso, RN. She presented the purposes and importance of preparedness in any emergencies in order to save lives. She also highlighted the common injuries and demonstration of the proper way of bandaging them to stop the bleeding and prevent further injuries. In the afternoon, a return demonstration on bandaging took place where students were given a scenario and asked to place a dressing on the specified injury along with the proper bandaging techniques. The eight groups worked their best to apply the skills taught even under pressure.

During the processing, they verbalized the importance of having these knowledge and skills in order to apply and demonstrate these to their client in the clinical area.

The Professional Evaluation and Certification Board (PECB) certified that the management system of NDU is found to be in accordance with the management system requirements in ISO 9001:2015.

The certification scope is “The provision of quality education from basic education to post-graduate program and other institutional support processes of Notre Dame University in Cotabato City, Philippines" The certification is valid until June 26, 2022 subject to annual surveillance audits.
